Overnight Nurse  The Medical Services Department is accepting applicants for the 3rd Shift Nurse position. The 3rd shift nurse promotes the physical and mental health of the children-in-care by applying basic nursing care during the evening and overnight hours. Additionally, this position assists with the processes of documenting, organizing and tracking within the Medical Services Department.

Other specific duties include, but are not limited too:

 

- The Coordination and management of medication and supplies
- Confirming all necessary medical information for each child's chart
- Transmitting medical information
- Administration of medication
- Evaluation of HH personnel if injured

Hoffman Academy is a special education, private, academic school for students identified with social and emotional disorders. The school is aligned with, and located on the grounds of, Hoffman Homes for Youth- a psychiatric residential treatment facility outside Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Hoffman Academy educates approximately 100 students. The mission is to offer a positive learning environment combined with a therapeutic component. Teachers, therapists and direct-care staff work together to assist the children-in-care with achieving their treatment goals. Day to day job duties of a substitute teacher are determined by the classroom teacher or his/her designee. Requirements:

  • A valid PA Teaching Certification, PA Emergency Certification or meet the criteria of the Act 86 Student Teacher Program.
  • Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34) less than 5 years old
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151) less than 5 years old
  • FBI Criminal History Record (Act 114) less than 5 years old
  • If document is past 1-year range, the original clearance that was received at the time of initial request must be provided.
  • Proof of a TB test or chest x-ray that is less than two years old
  • Proof of a high school diploma or higher education (copy of transcripts/diploma acceptable)
  • Additional required STS documents will be provided during on boarding process If you have taken any mandated training for Act 126 (Mandated Reporting) and/or Act 71 (Suicide Prevention), please provide proof of training-preferably a certificate of completion. Child & Family Therapist  — Child & Family Therapists provide individual, group, and family therapy for the children in care. They are responsible for assuming leadership of the treatment teams, providing clinical consultation to the direct-service staff, developing treatment plans, running treatment team meetings, and maintaining daily documentation. Applicants will be evaluated on clinical skills, leadership and teamwork capacities, as well as experience. The position requires a masters degree in social work, counseling or a related field. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driverís license and have basic computer skills. Pennsylvania Childline, Criminal, and FBI clearances will be processed.

Teacher Aides   Hoffman Academy is seeking applicants to fill the role of Teacher's Aide within the Hoffman Academy. This position assists the teacher during the day-to-day classroom routine. The goal of this position is to help the classroom operate in an organized, efficient and safe manner.  Assistance, with the supervision of the students, is top priority. Additional duties include the maintenance of student records and the implementation of behavior management programs.  
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and need to have a high school diploma or the equivalent.  Experience working within a classroom, or with children, is beneficial.

Special Education Teachers  -- Hoffman Academy is accepting applicants for anticipated Special Education Teacher positions. The Special Education Teacher is a full-time position with benefits. Applicants must have Pennsylvania Certification in Special Education. Proper clearances, as defined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, are required.
The Hoffman Academy is looking for teachers to work in a creative and versatile environment geared toward educating and treating at-risk youth. The goal is to allow teachers the flexibility to deliver curriculum in the most effective manner. Teachers, at the Hoffman Academy, must be able to work as part of a treatment team (i.e. the student, therapist, direct-care staff, parents, etc.) and assist the student in defining and achieving successful outcomes. Teachers are encouraged to use the support of the therapists and direct-care staff. The principles of Sanctuary® and Trauma Informed Care are expected to be applied within the daily routines, interactions and interventions of the school day. Nurses  -- The Medical Services Department is accepting applicants for the 4/4 RN. The schedule is 4 days on/4 days off. Hoffman Homes for Youth will give you the opportunity to work with an at-risk population (ages 6 - 18 years of age). Basic nursing duties are performed. Nurses are expected to tend to ill/injured clients and complete medication administration. Nurses work closely with the physicians and psychiatrists to coordinate proper treatment for the children in care. Hoffman Homes provides the opportunity for you to build a long-term relationship with the clients. You will play a large roll in helping the clients reach their goals and return to the community.
Applicants, for the 1st and 2nd shift positions, must be a Registered Nurse, licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Examiners. Mental Health Worker  -- The Mental Health Worker (MHW) is a direct-care/counselor position to children. MHWs supervise the children in care and are responsible for their safety. Throughout the day, MHWs guide the children through their daily routines and activities while documenting events and observations specific to each child. The MHW is expected to teach and model appropriate social skills and coping skills to the children. MHWs must provide support for children who may be experiencing feelings of anxiety and depression or struggling with anger management. The MHW is responsible for communicating pertinent information to the child's therapist so that treatment can be properly assessed. MHWs are asked to apply concepts of Hope, Welcoming, Sanctuary, and Recovery while being committed to promoting an atmosphere of Non-Violence, Emotional Intelligence, Social Learning, Open Communication, Social Responsibility, Democracy, Growth and Change.
Requirements
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid driver's license. Education, within the mental health field and/or experience working with children, is desired. Appropriate applicants must have a strong desire to help an at-risk group of children. This position requires the ability to stay active, make good decisions within a busy environment and maintain a calm demeanor while working with an emotional child. Additionally, this position requires strong ethics and accountability. Must be able to complete clear and legible documentation.

Full-Time MHWs are scheduled 4 days on (40 hours total)/4 days off. The first shift consists of 2 days 6:30 AM -  2:30 PM and 2 days 6:30 AM - 6:30 PM.  The 2nd shift consists of 3 days working 2:30 PM - 10:30 PM and 1 day working 6:30 AM -10:30 PM during the 4 days on shift. 

Part-Time MHW positions are less than 30 hours per week and have flexible hours.

$12.80/hour to start; $12.90/hour after 6 months; $13.00/hour after 1 year.

Mental Health Aide  -- The Mental Health Aide (MHA) is a 3rd shift position. The majority of the MHA shift consists of supervising the children while they sleep.  This requires the MHA to walk in and out of dorm rooms throughout the night.  Sleep patterns and safety checks are documented.  During the few hours, when the children are awake, the MHA assists with monitoring the children throughout the evening routine.
Requirements
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid driver's license. Education, within the mental health field and/or experience working with children, is desired. Appropriate applicants must have a strong desire to help an at-risk group of children. $11.25/hour to start; $11.37/hour after 6 months; $11.50/hour after 1 year.
